Air Southwest Welcomes New Flight Measures

Air Southwest has welcomed the new measures put in place by the Civil Aviation Authority, which will significantly reduce the risk of flight disruption as a result of volcanic ash.

The South West regional airline is now seeking approval to operate in the new Time Limited Zone (TLZ), which allow flights for a limited time at higher ash densities.

To operate in the new zone, airlines need to present the CAA with a safety case that includes the agreement of their aircraft and engine manufacturers.

Mike Coombes, Air Southwest commercial director, said: " We know how frustrating the last few weeks have been, so this is great news for our customers.

" The UK is currently an ash free zone and our flights are operating as scheduled.
However, if this changes, Air Southwest will endeavour to do everything possible to continue flying, and the new Time Limited Zone will help us do that.

" We'd like to take this opportunity to thank all our customers for their patience and tolerance during this recent period of disruption."
